An active, artist-led community

The Printmakers Guild of NY connects printmakers to each other, celebrates our work across a wide range of print mediums, and shares resources to support the professional and artistic growth of printmakers across New York.

We’re a community group run on the power of dedicated volunteers; printmakers and artists who seek the community and technical support of fellow art nerds!

PGNY recognizes the diverse paths artists travel to becoming great printmakers. We are:

  • A professional community of printmakers open to all experience levels, including students!
  • A social space where we can geek out about printmaking: share tips on techniques, rave about a great exhibit we can’t get out of our heads, or find equipment and materials for projects. 
  • A network of support and source of connection for many of us working independently in rural settings or areas without consistent access to printshops.

What We Do

  • Organize and share a monthly newsletter.
  • Hold a monthly online meeting connecting printmakers from across New York, open to all levels or career stages. Join us for an upcoming meeting!
  • Collaboratively produce an annual event that strengthens public awareness of print mediums and offers professional opportunities to artists working in print.
  • Celebrate the growth and success of fellow artists!

How We Got Started

Printmakers Guild of NY was founded in 2024 by artist Rachael Sophrin Lorimer, owner of the Studio OSYARI Printshop in Troy, NY. After a double whammy of parenting a toddler and being home during COVID, she started holding some local printmaker’s gatherings to find community and technical guidance, and like-minded print enthusiasts.

Those early gatherings sparked interest to collaboratively produce the 2024 PGNY Printmakers Showcase in November of 2024. This event solidified Rachael’s interest in further developing the group beyond the Troy area. She continues to balance this leadership role with parenting a very wiggly 9 year old and printing her own large-scale artwork.

PGNY’s engagement and team of volunteers continues to ebb, flow and grow! We welcome new artists, printshops, and print-based organizations and programs into the fold regularly.
